History:
The Empee Group encompasses business related to Hotels, Liquor, Sugar, Power, Packaging, Transport, Construction and Exports. The history of Empee began in early 1970’s when a small restaurant was started and by mid seventies acquired the Hotel Madras International now known as Hotel Grand Orient and Hotel New Victoria. Empee Group diversified into the business of manufacturing liquor in Chennai by establishing its first distillery in Mevaloorkuppam in 1984. It further progressed to Alcobev business with the acquisition of a brewery license in 1987. Empee acquired a distillery unit in 2003 from the Alembic group in Whitefield, Bangalore.

A sugar factory was established in 1991 in Nayudupet, Nellore District of Andhra Pradesh and in 1994, the Industrial Alcohol Plant was added to the sugar factory making it a complete sugar complex. In 1996, Empee Group established another unit in Palakkad, Kerala to meet the local demand.

Empee group have entered into packaging business, cargo transport, and travels – this as a support for its growing hospitality & Alcohol business. The group has lately started with non-conventional power generation with wind propelled electric generators in Coimbatore, Tamilnadu. Empee Group has been licensed to set up a co-generation power plant adjacent to the sugar mill complex. The plant is suitably devised to use biomass in addition to bagasse as fuel for electric power generation. Power generated by these units will be fed into the state grid or made available to the private sector.

Alcohol
The Group currently has two Alcohol Plants.

Alcohol Plant (Molasses based), Andhra Pradesh
One is part of the Sugar Plant at Naidupet (AP) which is molasses based, with a capacity to produce 30,000 litres of Rectified Spirit and Extra Neutral Alcohol per day. Besides, in conjunction, an Ethanol manufacturing Plant of 30,000 litres per day is also in operation to cater to the needs of Oil Marketing Companies.

Alcohol Plant (Grain based), Andhra Pradesh
The second Plant, established by Empee Distilleries Ltd, is a Grain Based Extra Neutral Alcohol Plant, set up at Choutkur, Medak Dist, A P., in the year 2013. This state-of-the art manufacturing facility, with best of the equipments selected from reputed suppliers, has a capacity of 64 Kilo Litres per day. The Plant is designed to have efficient utilisiaton of services like steam, water, power etc, and has a most modern water recycling plant to achieve zero discharge of water. The Plant has built-in flexibility to utilise broken Rice, Maize, Shorghum and Bajra which are abundantly available in the region. The objective behind this Plant is to provide Extra Neutral Alcohol with better sensory values, much higher than conventional ENA produced from Molasses. Grain ENA is normally preferred for premium IMFL brands and with many multi-national brands setting up their own bottling Units in the country, the ENA produced here is assured of ready market at all times.
The Group has planned setting up two more IAPs shortly: One at Ambasamudram based on Molasses from own Sugar Plant, as part of forward integration of Sugar business and the Other in the neighbouring District, again Molasses based and as a part of backward integration of IMFL business.
